Hygiene has a different connotation when used in different contexts. From Mental hygiene to Public hygiene, there are many hygienes, but what exactly does the word mean? Hygiene is an umbrella term that incorporates concepts as vast as exercise and diet. But the generally understood definition of the term hygiene is in the context of preventing the transmission of any infection. Hygiene is in the news for the past several months because of the spread of the coronavirus and the practices that are being brought to use to contain the spread of the virus. Maintaining proper hygiene has become extremely important, both on personal as well as social level. Community hygiene is now being emphasized in every public health declaration.

Hand hygiene, food safety, and workspace cleaning constitute the major points for hygiene interventions in the community. Consistently washing the hands with soap or using alcohol-based sanitizers are now being recommended by the health departments across the world. Washing hands before and after eating, after using the toilet, or after playing with or feeding pets. Also, regular cleaning of the environment where you live is also necessary. Frequently touched objects should be cleaned properly and thoroughly.


Importance of Hygiene:

Practice and upkeep of hygiene are very important as it is the first and primary deterrent to a number of diseases and disease-causing germs. The importance of hygiene can never be better understood than today when the entire world is under the grip of the covid-19 pandemic. Keeping yourself and your surroundings clean is the best way to fight this deadly virus and keep other infections at bay. Proper use of antibacterial cleaning agents also eliminates bad smells from the commercial space. Those who maintain healthy and hygienic practices in their daily life have a better immune system function than those who do not.
